[Wong was an immigrant to the United States caught in the Chinese Exclusion Act. I was able to find his Chinese Exclusion Case Files number, which is #20326 (District #10, St. Paul, 1906-1942, Chicago). I made no further research in this area.]

[1] Dr Wong Min Sam Prize in Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics was established in 1986 with a donation made by Wong Wing-bill 黃永標 (DDS (Tor.), LDS, Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario; President, Hong Kong Dental Association 1995-97) and his family. The prize is awarded to final-year BDS students. The two Dr. Wong may be related.
[2] Wong International Bursary, Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario was established in March 2007 with a donation made by Dr. John W. Wong and Lily Y. Wong in honor of Wong Min-sam and Lau Yee-fern [Lau's relation to Wong is unclear, could she be Wong's wife?]. The scholarship is awarded to students participating in international study opportunity in China. Again, the two Dr. Wong may be related.
[3] Certificates of Exemption were issued to dental practitioners who lacked the academic qualifications recognized by the Dental Board (essentially the General Medical Council in UK) to qualify to register. Generally speaking, only qualifications awarded by institutions located on the Britain Isles or in British Overseas Territories were recognized.

They lived in India between 1841 and 1860, and raised six daughters and two sons, all born in India. Their second daughter Esther (Etty), d.1842, was the author of two notable books about women in the Bible: Women of the Bible, Old Testament (London: Partridge, 1881) and Women of the Bible, New Testament (London: Partridge, 1885).

Reverdin's Needle

[Designer of Reverdin-Woo neddle. Woo demonstrated the use of his modification of Reverdin's needle on September 21, 1929 at the Peking Union Medical College. The original Reverdin's needle, a handled needle for surgical use with eye aperture controlled by thumb stud, was invented by Swiss surgeon Jacques L. Reverdin in 1879. The needle is sometime referred to as the Reverdin-Woo needle.]

[Woo went to England in 1921 to receive specialist treatment of undisclosed nature and there was false reports of his death as the result of the treatment.]

[Woo was sued in 1935 by John S.H. Waan, Chinese Secretary to the Italian Consul-General for willful neglect and exposure of a patient, causing grievous injury to health. The patient in question was Wann's 31-month-old daughter, Natalina, who died after having been under the care of Woo. The trial ended after Woo's lawyer submitted no case to answer on the grounds of lack of evidence.]

[1] Woo was the first Chinese elected to the office of President of the China Medical Association 中國博醫會. He was also the last president of the association which in April 1932 amalgamated with the Chinese Medical Association 中華醫學會 and ceased to exist henceforth. The China Medical Association was originally the Medical Missionary Society of Canton founded in February 21, 1838. The words "of Canton" in the name of the society was later replaced by "in China".
